Addlestone Canoe Club regularly runs paddle training courses for its members.
For new paddlers, the club runs British Canoeing Discover and Explore personal paddling awards each year, for kayakers and canoeists. These are intended to introduce basic paddle skills and safety, and developing an understanding of the factors which affect paddling, decision making, and giving confidence on the water.
The club also regularly runs safety courses for its members, such as the British Canoeing Paddle Safer and Paddlesport Safety and Rescue Training. These introduce essential skills to paddle safely and deal with potential problems that might arise in Sheltered Water environments.
Other courses have been organised based on members’ interests and requirements. Recently, these have included:
- Paddlesport Instructor
- Stand-up Paddleboard Instructor
- White Water Safety & Rescue
- White Water Kayak Award
- White Water Leader
- 2-day Remote First Aid
- Safeguarding
This is in addition to the regular informal coaching given by members on paddles on the river or in the pool.
Any member interested in formal training or courses should approach the lead coach for their discipline to discuss their aspirations and personal paddling development plan.
